Changing Generic Dialogue: NPC.cs lines

From The Stardew Modding Wiki

This page can be used in tandem with the "NPC-Specific Generic Dialogue" page on the official wiki to change NPC.cs dialogue lines. The table aims to, as accurately as possible, describe the various conditions that the NPC.cs lines are triggered under, to hopefully make replacing them as understandable as possible.

In depth explanation:[edit | edit source | hide]

For simplicity's sake, the NPC saying the lines will be referred to as the "talker" and the NPC they're revealing likes or dislikes for will be referred to as the "subject".

NPC.cs.4079 and NPC.cs.4080, if possible, replace the subject's name with a relevant family title. An example of this could be Robin talking about Sebastian; instead of saying "Sebastian", she would say "my son". The initial sequence begins with NPC.cs.4083, where it rolls a 50/50 chance.

If the 50/50 passes, the next line to load is NPC.cs.4084 and it reveals a like.

  • If the talker is a <child>, NPC.cs.4083 and NPC.cs.4084 DO NOT LOAD and are instead replaced with NPC.cs.4086, then NPC.cs.4088 (if the subject is male) or NPC.cs.4089 (if the subject is female) follow after.
  • If the talker isn't, then it generates a number between 0 and 4:
    • If it's 0, it loads NPC.cs.4091
    • If it's 1, it loads NPC.cs.4094 (if the subject is male) or NPC.cs.4097 (if the subject is female)
    • If it's 2, it loads NPC.cs.4100 (if the subject is male) or NPC.cs.4103 (if the subject is female)
    • If it's 3, it loads NPC.cs.4106
      • In the case of any of these numbers getting picked, then NPC.cs.4083 and NPC.cs.4084 DO NOT LOAD and are instead replaced with the appropriate line.
    • If it's 4, then there's a 65% chance that it generates another number between 0 and 4:
      • If it's 0, it loads NPC.cs.4109 (if the subject is male) or NPC.cs.4111 (if the subject is female)
      • If it's 1, there's a 50/50 chance of it loading NPC.cs.4115 or NPC.cs.4116 (if the subject is female), or there's a 50/50 chance of it loading NPC.cs.4113 or NPC.cs.4114 (if the subject is male)
      • If it's 2, it loads NPC.cs.4118 (if the subject is male) or NPC.cs.4120 (if the subject is female)
      • If it's 3, it loads NPC.cs.4125
      • If it's 4, it loads NPC.cs.4126 (if the subject is male) or NPC.cs.4128 (if the subject is female)
        • In the case of any of these number getting picked, then they are added on after NPC.cs.4083 and NPC.cs.4084.

If the 50/50 fails, the next line to load is NPC.cs.4135 (if the subject is male) or NPC.cs.4138 (if the subject is female) and it reveals a dislike.

  • If the talker is a <child>, NPC.cs.4083 and (NPC.cs.4135 or NPC.cs.4138) DO NOT LOAD and are instead replaced with NPC.cs.4141 (if the subject is male) or NPC.cs.4144 (if the subject is female).
  • If the talker isn't, then it generates a number between 0 and 3:
    • If it's 0, there's a 50/50 chance of it loading NPC.cs.4147 by itself, or loading NPC.cs.4146 and NPC.cs.4147 together.
    • If it's 1, there's a 50/50 chance of it loading NPC.cs.4153 or NPC.cs.4154 (if the subject is female), or there's a 50/50 chance of it loading NPC.cs.4149 or NPC.cs.4152 (if the subject is male)
    • If it's 2, it loads NPC.cs.4161 (if the subject is male) or NPC.cs.4164 (if the subject is female)
      • In the case of any of these numbers getting picked, then NPC.cs.4083 and (NPC.cs.4135 or NPC.cs.4138) DO NOT LOAD and are instead replaced with the appropriate line.
    • If it's 3, then there's a 65% chance that it generates another number between 0 and 4:
      • If it's 0, it loads NPC.cs.4170
      • If it's 1, it loads NPC.cs.4171
      • If it's 2, it loads NPC.cs.4172 (if the subject is male) or NPC.cs.4174 (if the subject is female)
      • If it's 3, it loads NPC.cs.4176 (if the subject is male) or NPC.cs.4178 (if the subject is female)
      • If it's 4, it loads NPC.cs.4180
        • In the case of any of these number getting picked, then they are added on after NPC.cs.4083 and (NPC.cs.4135 or NPC.cs.4138).
  • If the subject is Lewis, there's a 50/50 chance NPC.cs.4083 and (NPC.cs.4135 or NPC.cs.4138) DO NOT LOAD, which it would then be replaced with NPC.cs.4141.
